The Scam Shield

The people who target newcomers count on confusion. Take it away.

Keep this card. It defeats most fraud aimed at immigrant families — including "notario" fraud.

The one rule that stops most scams

Real U.S. government agencies (IRS, USCIS, Social Security) never call, text, or email demanding instant payment by gift card, crypto, or wire — and never threaten you with arrest or deportation over the phone. If that happens, it is a scam. Hang up.

Walk away if someone…

        If you want a hand

Two services that fit a newcomer's real needs

These are services Alan offers. He earns from them — that's stated plainly below. Neither is required to use anything on this page, and free alternatives are noted.

        Pay it forward

If this helped your family land on its feet

What you received here has real dollar value — newcomers pay hundreds for far less. There's no charge and no obligation. But if it brought you value, you can honor that by helping the next family. Give what feels right — or simply send this to someone who just arrived.

Refugee → FBI national security → reunited his whole family in America

At 11, I ran from Vietnam for my nine siblings and two parents. Three months in a Malaysian refugee camp. U.S. foster care. Three jobs while earning my degree at the Carlson School, University of Minnesota. Ten years in FBI national security and counterintelligence. Over the next twenty years I brought my entire family to America — and today, all of us are thriving. This is the map I wish someone had handed us. Nobody should have to figure it out alone, or in a language that isn't theirs.
